Do we still need International Women's Day?

A clear yes from my side. While a lot has been achieved since 1911, there is still much work to be done. This day serves as a reminder to continue standing up for justice, visibility, and empowerment.

A brief history: March 8th emerged from the women's labor movement of the early 20th century and continues to stand for better working conditions, equal pay, women's voting rights, and an end to gender-based violence. In short, March 8th is a symbol of women's rights and equality.

Like every year – here’s my post on it. 😊

Current facts on gender equality:

Gender Pay Gap: Statistics show that women earn about 20% less than men, and only 55 of the world's 500 richest people are women. At the current pace of progress, it is expected to take 169 years to close this gender pay gap.

Women in leadership positions: Women are still judged differently than men in the media. When men work, they are seen as "successful." Women? "Neglecting their families."

Women in politics: Only a quarter of parliamentary seats are held by women, and only 30 out of 196 heads of state and government leaders are female.

Underrepresentation in the media: Women are significantly underrepresented in the media. A study found that only around 21% of visible spokespersons for organizations and 23% of experts in media coverage are women.

Violence against women: According to the Federal Situation Report on Gender-Based Crimes Against Women by the German Federal Criminal Police Office, around 52,300 women were victims of sexualized violence last year – an increase of 6.2%. Cases of domestic violence rose by 5.6%, affecting 180,700 victims.

Femicide: Every other day, a woman in our country is killed by her (ex-)partner. And yet, Germany still seems to be in a political coma when it comes to addressing this issue.

As I write this, I feel both anger and hope. These facts should not discourage us but rather motivate us to take women’s empowerment seriously, support one another, and raise our voices against injustice. Above all, we should use our positions and power to create more visibility and opportunities for other women.

Therefore – I warmly invite you to my yoga class on

Saturday, March 8th, at 12 PM 🌹

A class dedicated to our femininity and resilience. Together, we celebrate our strength, vulnerability, and uniqueness, because we believe that there is room for every one of us at the top, enough love and attention to go around – and that none of us is truly free until we all are.

💫 Pure women’s empowerment! 💫

The class will take place at Jivamukti Munich and will also be streamed online. Click here to register.
