In Ayurveda, summer is considered Pitta season—the season of heat, intensity, and fire. You might notice this not only in the weather but also in your body: irritated skin, restless sleep, feeling overheated, or simply more easily agitated.
That's why I'd love to share 5 simple Yoga & Ayurveda tips that I personally love during the summer months.
1. Cool More Than Just Your Body—Cool Your Skin
In Ayurveda, excess heat often shows up first through the skin. A gentle rose hydrosol mist helps cool, soothe, and instantly refresh your skin.
A few sprays throughout the day can help both your body and your nervous system shift into a calmer state.
2. Use Your Breath as Nature's Air Conditioning
Yoga offers a beautiful breathing technique called Śītalī Pranayama. Here is an instruction video on my IG.
It naturally cools the body, calms the nervous system, and is especially supportive on hot summer days.
3. Bitter Is Summer Medicine
When it's hot outside, we often crave ice cream and sweet treats.
According to Ayurveda, however, bitter foods like arugula, chicory, dandelion greens, and fresh herbs help balance excess heat while gently supporting healthy digestion.
4. Ayurveda's Favorite Summer Ice Cream
Cooling - yes! Ice cold—not so much!
One of my favorite summer treats is blending frozen mango with coconut milk, a pinch of cardamom, or a splash of rose water.
Let it soften for a few minutes before eating so it's refreshing without weakening your digestive fire (Agni).
5. Let Your Yoga Practice Change with the Seasons
In summer, our bodies often need less heat and intensity—and more softness, stillness, and rest.
Cooling breathwork, gentle flows, and a longer Savasana can help regulate your nervous system and restore balance.
